SCAF 2025 Finalist Emerging Artist Award- Thirsk

Updated: Aug 6, 2025

What an awesome experience to be part of. Being a finalist really encouraged me to develop on ideas I had been keen to explore on. Being fresh out of uni its necessary to forge a practice thats sustainable- my route is through selling my pieces to galleries and shows. The opportunity with SCAF gave me back the play side of my practice that I was starting to miss. Its enabled me to challenge my abilities as a maker and to challenge the possibilities with clay. The concept for the final was TIME.

I find being in forests for even a relatively short period of time can have huge benefits to my health and well being. This I wanted to capture across in the artwork I created. To stop and take time to be in nature and to be mindful when in it.

I’m currently on the mentorship programme with the ceramicist/artist Rebecca Appleby. One the areas in her process is on recognising achievements and success. Ive recognised through the last year that I am very motivated to achieve goals and sometimes Im so busy doing this that I forget to take stock of the moment in time- quite ept really.
